“Date Night” has always been a big part of our relationship.
Whether it is just catching a quick movie or taking a hike we make sure to set out time for each other. We are both educators & coaches, so as you can imagine we are pretty busy. When we aren’t at practice/school we are doing something with our son. He plays sports and we try to get him involved with as many activities as we can so he has those memories to look back on later. It’s so easy to forget to make time for each other when life moves at a fast pace like ours. Having kids in any relationship can definitely alter how and when you’re able to have “Date Night” but it shouldn’t eliminate them. We are able to get in a lot of quality time every other weekend, but if your schedule is not as flexible lean on your village and talk with your spouse on ways to create the space. Try things out of both your comfort zones and be open to new experiences. Making time to communicate, enjoy each other’s presence, and doing something you both enjoy can make such a positive impact on your relationship. One of the things my husband and I have discussed is that we’re the first example our kids will see of a romantic relationship. Their views will be influenced by many factors as they grow up, but their first idea will be what they see at home. Our son sees how we hold hands and flirt with one another. He sees the friendship that we have and the way that we communicate even if we are handling a disagreement. The family thrives when the parents are in tune with one another. So go on that date and make the time with your spouse!
